Hi Jessica, your project certainly represents an example of one shift that fosters belonging: more diverse storytellers in the newsroom. Telling untold stories is a necessary next step in journalism fostering belonging like Rest of World (https://restofworld.org/) and The 19th (https://19thnews.org/). There are new themes and modes of storytelling that journalism can explore like The 1619 Project. Startups like Artifact are bringing journalistic practices and techniques to bring everyday stories to life in audio. Immersive media and the growing metaverse are arenas to bring more emotional connection and empathy to virtual journalism but require care to prevent the toxic behavior often seen in gamer culture.
